Jennifer Allo was presented with a job opportunity to become a health coach with Beachbody, and at the time never thought that would be her career of choice. But as a busy mother of three, Jennifer has learned the importance of health, nutrition and self-love through her health coach journey. Helping people achieve their goals along with her own has created a perfect lifestyle for her and her family.

Every Ella: Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Jennifer Allo: Hey, I’m Jen! I am a mom to 3 little ones, Tristan, Kendall and Brittin, and I have an amazing husband, Casey. We have been married for 6 years. I went to Western Connecticut State University and graduated with a degree in Business Marketing. I love anything outdoors, swimming, walking, biking and the beach. I always have loved art and being creative. I do a lot of crafts projects with our kids who have a love for art too.

You are a BeachBody coach. Can you tell us a little bit about this company and your job?

Yes, I am a Beachbody coach! I am very proud to work for a company that stands for such a great mission - to help people achieve their goals and enjoy healthy, fulfilling lives. They are a leader of fitness, nutrition and weight-loss programs. With the rising trend of obesity and unhealthy diets, I am blessed to be apart of something that can help change someone's life, both physically and financially. My role as a Beachbody coach is to help my customers reach whatever their goal is. Some people come to me to look their best on their wedding day. Others come to me for help with 100 lbs to lose. Whatever their goal is, I try to help them achieve that with the support from myself and from my accountability groups. Knowing that they have 20 plus women on their side rooting for them, pushing them harder, and supporting them when things get hard is a huge help to them achieving their goals.They are not alone!

What inspired you to become a health coach?

I never would have thought of becoming a health coach. But when the opportunity was presented to myself, I took it and ran with it. I think the first time that someone told me, “thank you for helping me," was really when it hit me that I was making a difference. I was impacting their lives. It wasn’t just about me. It was to help them. Now, I want to be better. I am learning more and more about nutrition and fitness. Not only to help myself and my family's health, it is to share what I am learning with others. This is just the beginning for me! I have been doing this for a year and a few months now and I have so much more to learn about health and nutrition. I am excited for this journey!

When you first signed up to be a coach, was your focus on your physical image or health? And how has your view changed along your journey?

When I first signed up, my focus was both, physical and health. I wasn’t very strict about sticking to a meal plan or even know how to. In my mind, I ate somewhat healthy but I always went over with my portion sizes, like most people do. I had baby weight to lose and just wanted to feel like me again. I wanted to feel good in my skin! I am still working on my own health and it helps to know that I too am not alone. I have all my challengers who push me everyday to be better to myself! I used to think healthy was skinny. Healthy is feeding your body, real, whole, clean foods and we have somehow lost that nowadays. My view has changed to helping others realize the importance of good health and nutrition and daily exercise. It can change your life for the better.

What has been the most rewarding part of this career for you?

Well, there are a few, but I will say first that the most rewarding part of this career is being able to make an impact on someone else’s life. There are no words that can describe what that feels like. That is what pushes me everyday, to be better than I was the day before. Secondly, the most rewarding part of this career is the freedom. I get to work around my family's schedule. I will not have to leave my children to go off to work or have someone else pick them up from school. I am there for all of their events. I never wanted to miss one single part of my children’s lives! Beachbody has given me that opportunity.

What changes mentally have you noticed in yourself since becoming a coach?

One of our daily tasks is to improve ourselves by doing personal development. Every single day for the last year and 3 months I have either read 10 pages of a book or listen to 20 minutes of an audio book. I make mindless activities mindful by listening to my audio while doing housework, folding the laundry or driving in the car. It has been life changing adding personal development into my life. I am not a reader so reading 13 books over the last year is a huge accomplishment for me. Always be a student!

Your three young children often workout with you and your husband.  Was this something that you planned or did they initiate their participation?

This was completely them just being curious! At first, like anything it is an adjustment because your attention is on them and you become distracted from working out, but it has become something they just expect and see daily. They notice when you change a workout trainer, they tell you when you're not doing the move right and they will surely let you know if you stopped before you should have! They push us harder! One of them usually joins in while we are working out or they sit and watch and they love to show you how they can do it too. It’s a blessing that I am able to show my children the importance of exercise. I never had that growing up and love that I get to share this with them.

Has anyone in particular stood out to you or reached out to tell you how you have helped his or her life?

Yes!! There are many people who reach out to say thank you for the inspiration. It is sometimes surreal to get these messages. I have a few people who are standing out in my mind right now. One had went through a hard time and decided enough was enough, that she needed to do something for herself, for her health. She ended up losing close to 40 lbs now and is still working towards her goal. I have another woman who is actually very close to me and she had started very slowly with changing how much water she drank, to adding in exercise and then adding in a clean eating meal plan. She has lost 30 lbs and she didn’t even think she had 30 lbs to lose. It is exciting because they send you messages because they are excited and need to share it with someone who cares! I am that someone!! It isn’t always about weight... that is very important here. It is about wanting to feel good in your skin, to look in the mirror and be proud of the person you see looking back at you. I am so happy that I get to share their journeys with them! When they succeed, I do! It feels amazing!

Name one woman who inspires you.

One woman who inspires me, hmmm… that is difficult to name just one. First, my cousin Shane is someone who inspires me and is who I look up to daily! She has shared this incredible opportunity with me and because of her, I am so forever thankful!! It has and will continue to help change my life and the others that I meet along the way. She has given me the courage that I was always holding back! Let’s see, of course my Mom inspires me! But, I am also SO lucky to have been blessed with 3 moms. My mom, my stepmom and my mother-in-law, are 3 women who inspire me daily and are such a huge part of my life. They are each so very different in their own ways, and have grown up in completely different situations. Thus leaving them to share with me their own different perspectives on life. Having each one of them in my life has affected me! It has helped to me grow into the woman I am today. I know for a fact that I wouldn’t be as strong, independent, and motivated as I am today without these incredible woman in my life.

What advice would you give to girls these days?

This is what I tell my girls all the time, you can do anything you want in this life! You need to believe that you can and don’t let anything get in your way. There will always be distractions but I truly believe that these distractions will point you in the right direction. Be YOU!
